Last updated: 20 October 2026
These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of https://contemporary-rugs.com (the "Site"). The Site is operated by X Enterprises, LLC, 18122 3rd Dr SE, Bothell, WA 98012 ("we," "us," or "our"). By using the Site, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Site.
What the Site is, and what it is not
The Site publishes general information about rugs: what the word contemporary means, design history, sizes and placement, rugs by room, hand-knotted, hand-tufted, flatweave, and machine-made construction, pile, fibers, labels, rug pads, cleaning and stains, carpet beetles, federal flammability standards, and new carpet smell. We are not a retailer, a brand, a maker, a designer, a rug cleaner, a conservator, a pest control operator, a testing laboratory, a government agency, a medical provider, or a lawyer. We do not sell rugs, rug pads, cleaning products, or pest control products. The Site does not give prices, product picks, size charts, layout rules, washing settings, water temperatures, cleaning recipes, or pesticide recommendations. Where it describes cleaning, it reports what named sources say.
Important rug and home safety notice
A rug, runner, or mat that slips, curls, or bunches, or that sits in a walking path or on stairs, can cause a trip or fall, and falls can cause serious injury or death, especially for older adults. Rugs and rug pads can burn, and some cleaning products and pesticides can be harmful if misused. You are responsible for how you choose, place, secure, clean, and maintain any rug, rug pad, tape, or cleaning product, for following the maker's labels and instructions, and for keeping walking paths, stairs, and areas near fireplaces, heaters, and other sources of heat or flame clear. You are also responsible for how you use any pesticide and for following its label. If you are not sure something can be done safely, do not do it, and ask a qualified professional. If someone falls and is hurt, get medical help. In an emergency, call 911.
General information only; no professional, legal, or safety advice
Content on the Site is for general information. It is not legal, regulatory, medical, fire safety, cleaning, conservation, pest control, or other professional advice, and it is not a substitute for the maker's labels and instructions, a product's label, your doctor, a qualified rug cleaner or conservator, a licensed pest control operator, or another qualified professional. We do not say that any rug, rug pad, fiber, product, or practice is safe, fire resistant, or free of emissions, and nothing on the Site is a safety inspection, test, or certification.
Falls, rug placement, and rug pads
Where the Site describes fall prevention, it quotes the CDC's home fall prevention checklist, which the CDC wrote for older adults, and other agency guidance, in their words, as general information. Fall statistics on the Site are the CDC's figures for adults 65 and older, with the dates the CDC gives. We do not say that any rug pad, gripper, tape, backing, pile height, or placement prevents falls. You decide where and how to place a rug and whether to use one at all.
Cleaning and care
The Site does not give washing settings, water temperatures, cleaning recipes, or cleaning product names for any fiber or rug. Where it describes care, stains, or moisture, it reports what named sources say, such as the Canadian Conservation Institute, EPA, museum textile care pages, and university extension services. Some of that guidance was written for valued, heirloom, or museum textiles, for one kind of textile, or for carpet and homes in general, and the Site says so where it applies. Whether a rug is washable, and how to clean it, is up to its maker's instructions. Any cleaning you do, or have done, is at your own risk.
Carpet beetles and other pests
Where the Site describes carpet beetles or other pests, it reports what university extension services say, as general information. It is not pest control advice, and it is not an inspection or identification of any pest in your home. We do not name or recommend any pesticide, and we do not say that any method will end an infestation. If you use a pesticide, read and follow its label. Some pesticides and fumigants may be bought or used only by licensed applicators. If you have a rash, itching, or another health concern, talk to your doctor.
Makers' instructions and labels
Rugs, rug pads, grippers, tapes, and cleaning products are made and sold by third parties under their own terms. Their labels, instructions, and warnings control over anything on the Site. We have not tested any product. We are not responsible for any third party's products, labels, instructions, or recalls.
Federal rules, standards, and labels
Where the Site describes the Textile Fiber Products Identification Act and its rules (16 CFR Part 303), the Wool Products Labeling Act, the FTC Care Labeling Rule (16 CFR Part 423), or the CPSC surface flammability standards for carpets and rugs (16 CFR Parts 1630 and 1631), it does so as the eCFR, the FTC, or the CPSC states them, for general information only. The Site does not reprint those rules and does not tell you what the law requires for any rug, label, or business. A rug that meets a federal flammability standard is not fireproof, and a "T" on a label marks a fire-retardant treatment, not a fire rating. Rules change, and other federal, state, local, and foreign laws may apply. If you make, import, label, or sell rugs, read the current rules and get advice from a qualified professional about your situation.
Indoor air and new carpet
Where the Site describes volatile organic compounds or new carpet, it quotes EPA, and it notes that EPA's steps are written for installed carpet. Where the Site describes moisture and mold, it reports EPA's guidance, which EPA writes for homes and for water-damaged areas and items in general, not for rugs alone. The Site makes no health claims and does not say any rug is non-toxic or low in emissions. If you have a health concern, talk to your doctor.
Agencies, organizations, and sources
Government agencies, museums, university extension services, dictionaries, and encyclopedias named on the Site, including the CDC, the National Institute on Aging, the CPSC, the FTC, EPA, the Canadian Conservation Institute, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the USDA National Agricultural Library, The George Washington University Museum and The Textile Museum, the Arizona State Museum, the University of California Statewide IPM Program, the extension services of the University of Maryland, the University of Florida, Washington State University, and Penn State, Merriam-Webster, Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, Encyclopaedia Iranica, and the New Georgia Encyclopedia, are credited for their own guidance, definitions, and history. They do not endorse the Site, and the Site's mention of a rule, standard, or source is not a statement that any product is approved, certified, compliant, or safe.
History and named people
Where the Site names historical people, schools, or places, it does so only as factual history, in the words of the source it links. Those people, their estates, and the institutions named are not affiliated with the Site, do not endorse it, and did not design, make, or approve any product the Site mentions or links to.
Brand names and trademarks
Brand, product, program, and organization names mentioned on the Site belong to their owners. We use them only to credit their own guidance. The Site is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by any brand or organization it mentions. "Contemporary Rugs" is the name of the Site, not a description of any product.
Affiliate links
Some links may be affiliate links. We may earn a commission if you buy through them, at no extra cost to you. Any purchase is between you and the retailer, under the retailer's terms. See our Affiliate Disclosure.
Eligibility
The Site is for a general audience. It is not directed to children under 13.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the Site in violation of any law;
- copy, scrape, or republish Site content in bulk without our written permission;
- interfere with, overload, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Site.
Intellectual property
Site content, design, and text are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by law. You may view and share links to the Site for personal, non-commercial use. Third-party names and trademarks are covered under "Brand names and trademarks" above.
Third-party websites
Links to retailers, makers, government agencies, museums, encyclopedias, and other websites are provided for convenience. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, products, prices, or policies.
Disclaimer of warranties
THE SITE AND ITS CONTENT ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF ACCURACY, MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT, TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.
Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE AND OUR OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SITE, ANY PURCHASE FROM A THIRD PARTY, OR THE CHOICE, PLACEMENT, USE, CLEANING, OR MAINTENANCE OF ANY RUG, RUG PAD, TAPE, CLEANING PRODUCT, OR OTHER PRODUCT. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATED TO THE SITE OR THESE TERMS WILL NOT EXCEED ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS (US $100). NOTHING IN THESE TERMS LIMITS LIABILITY THAT CANNOT LAWFULLY BE LIMITED.
Indemnification
You will defend, indemnify, and hold us harmless from claims, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your misuse of the Site or your violation of these Terms.
Dispute resolution; binding arbitration; class-action waiver
Please read this section carefully. Except for small-claims matters and claims for injunctive relief over intellectual property, any dispute about these Terms or the Site will be resolved by binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules. The seat of arbitration will be King County, Washington, unless you and we agree otherwise. You and we waive any right to a jury trial and to take part in a class, consolidated, or representative action. If the class-action waiver is found unenforceable for a claim, that claim must proceed in court and not in arbitration.
Governing law and venue
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Subject to the arbitration section, exclusive venue for permitted court actions is the state or federal courts in King County, Washington, and you consent to jurisdiction there.
Assignment and change of operator
We may assign or transfer these Terms, and the Site, to a successor operator, including as part of a sale of the Site, without notice to you. After that, the successor operator takes our place under these Terms and may post its own terms. You may not assign these Terms without our written consent.
Changes
We may update these Terms by posting a revised version on this page with a new "Last updated" date. Continued use after that date means you accept the revised Terms.
Miscellaneous
These Terms, with the Privacy Policy and Affiliate Disclosure, are the entire agreement between you and us about the Site. If any provision is unenforceable, the rest remain in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver.
